After talking with Gene, his customers, and the broader hot pepper community, I wrote up a conceptual point of view that would inform how we added fresh content to the site.

In order to get a better understanding of how the website needs to change, I implemented a voluntary survey for users of the website to take. I also interviewed some of Karma Sauce's repeat customers who view the website. We discussed any problems they had and anything they'd like to see retooled.

I began thinking about Panacea when working at a social psychology clinic. While conducting a literature review I came across a paper that discussed the difficulties of getting psychiatry patients to adhere to their medication regimens.

With the data from the safari's I put together an experience map of a users journey through the medication pick-up process.

This seemed like a problem that an adherence app might be able to remedy. I started exploring the problem further by observing friends during activities that involved adhering to medication regimines.

I then began to look at what digital solutions had already been put on the market.

I then began work on a competitive analysis of adherence maps on the market.

With the user data and the competitive analysis in mind, I conducted some "crazy-8" exercises. I attempted to quickly draw a large quantity of interfaces that may offer solutions for our users without over-analyzing each individual idea.

I boiled down the interfaces and concepts into two paper prototypes. One of the prototypes was a gamified app that incentivized users to track their mood over time. The other app was a more traditional design with a tiled menu. I conducted user tests with these prototypes in order to get more feedback and data.

The tests showed that users had a significant preference for the traditional design. I tweaked the design based on user feedback and began working on digital mockups.  As I worked I started making storyboards that put the app's features in the context of user needs.

As we kept iterating and usability testing, the design evolved. We did our most extensive testing between Ver 3.0 and Ver 4.0 through UserTesting.com.
